Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/123/6148
Date
[c. 1376-c. 1380]
Description
Petitioners
John de Yatton, Prior of Llanthony Prima.
Name(s)
de Yatton, John
Addressees
King, Council and Lords of Parliament.
Occupation
Prior of Llanthony Prima
Nature of request
The Prior of Llanthony Prima makes a request in connection with a case begun by his predecessor before the Justices of Ireland relating to the right to make presentments to the church of Ardcath. He appears to be asking for the restoration of the right to present, but the petition is badly damaged and incomplete, and the precise purpose of the petition is unclear.
Nature of endorsement
Because the record which this bill mentions is in King's Bench he should sue there and right shall be done to him.
Places mentioned
Llanthony Prima, [Monmouthshire], Wales
Ireland
Ardcath, [County Meath, Ireland].
People mentioned
Nicholas de Trille (Trilley, Trinbey), former Prior of Llanthony Prima
Robert Sutton, clerk.
Note
A mandate for Trille's resignation as prior was issued on 8 February 1376, following his blinding by three of his fellow canons (Calendar of Papal Letters, IV, p.223), although Trille had presumably left the priory well before that date. As the note on the guard suggests, the petition probably dates to the early years of Richard II's reign, and clearly post-dates the order of 2 June 1375 (CCR 1374-7, pp.151-2), which itself shows that this case had been continuing since the 1330s.
