Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Laton.
Name(s)
de Laton, Thomas
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Laton requests a writ to the justices to come to judgment in his case concerning lands in Corby. These lands were enfeoffed to him by Richemond, and he held then peacefully until ousted by Harclay, Beauchaump, Forester and others. Following Harclay's forfeiture, the king's father granted Corby to Salkeld, and Laton has since sued a writ of novel disseisin against Salkeld, Beauchaump and Forester before the justices. However, the justices have adjourned the plea until their next session, not wishing to continue without the king's advice.
Nature of endorsement
He shall have a writ so that the assize shall be taken according to the law notwithstanding the response and the charter so that they come to judgment without the counsel of the king.
Places mentioned
Corkeby (Corby), [Cumberland].

Note
Dated on the guard to? 1327-30. Andrew de Harclay, Earl of Carlisle, was executed in 1323, and given the references to this being carried out by the king's father, the petition would appear to date to the early years of the reign of Edward III.
