SC 8/123/6144
Date
[c. 1273]
Description
Petitioners
Ivo de Lingedraper (Lyndraper) of Southwark.
Name(s)
de Lingedraper (Lyndraper), Ivo
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Ivo de Lingedraper seeks remedy in his case against Ferbras. He states that Ferbras and his companions broke into his house in Bread Street and attacked him, badly injuring him and causing damage worth £100. While he was still injured, Hervy, then mayor and coroner of London, attached a horse from Ferbras worth 10 marks as compensation, but Ivo has been unable to secure further reparations due to Ferbras' great influence.
Nature of endorsement
London. Ivo de Lyndraper, plaintiff against William Ferbras, clerkIn ChanceryHe shall have a writ of trespass in the Bench.
Places mentioned
Southwark, [Surrey]
London
Bread Street, London.
People mentioned
William Ferbras, clerk
Walter Hervy (Harvey), mayor and coroner of London.
Note
The petitioner states that the attack took place on Tuesday, the vigil of the blessed king in the first year of king Edward. The handwriting would date this to Edward I, while the only feast relating to a saintly English king which fell on a Wednesday in that regnal year would seem to be that of the death of Edward the Confessor on 5 January. Thus the petition was presumably presented in or after 1273, after Lingedraper had recovered from his injuries. Hervy's attachment was probably made before he knew whether the petitioner would live or die.
