Nature of request
The Prior of Lancaster requests permission to appropriate the church of Heysham, of which he holds the advowson, together with the tax of 100s per year, for the relief of his house, which was destroyed by the Scots. He also asks that his house retain the hospital of St Leonard in Lancaster, which extends to 9 marks 7s per year, in order to found a chantry or to do other alms for the king and his heirs.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the hospital, he should inform the council upon what alms it was founded and what persons reside there and upon what conditions.2) Concerning the appropriation of the church, Coram Rege. The king is advised not to grant this due to the many complaints made to him by the bishops concerning rights to such appropriations.

Note
Dated on the guard to? c. 1323, with reference to an inquisition into the status of St Leonard's Hospital, held on 5 October 1323, which may have been held in connection with this request. The Scots sacked Lancaster in 1322, which would correlate with the Prior's statement that the priory had been destroyed by the King's Scottish enemies.
