Date
[c. 1320-c. 1350]

Liege people of the City of London.
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The people of London ask that the sheriffs of London should not be amerced for the escape of felons for any greater amount than other sheriffs in the realm. They state that whereas other sheriffs are only amerced for 100s for each such escape, the sheriffs of London are amerced for £20.
Nature of endorsement
Let it be searched in the eyres of the justices and at the Exchequer as to how this was done before, and let it be certified to the King.Coram domino Rege.
Places mentioned
London.
Note
Dated by the handwriting to the first half of the fourteenth century. A note on the guard dates it to '? Ed II', but no evidence cited; however, the handwriting and format would seem consistent with the latter part of that reign, or possibly slightly later.
