Reference
SC 8/123/6126
Date
[1317-1327]
Description
Petitioners
Burgesses of Lostwithiel and Truro.
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The burgesses of Lostwithiel and Truro ask the king to grant a charter giving their towns exclusive right to weigh tin in Cornwall.
Nature of endorsement
Let this petition be shown to the council of the queen, and let the council be informed, and let the chancellor certify whether or not this is to the damage of the king or the queen.Coram domino Rege.
Places mentioned
Lostwithiel, [Cornwall]
Truro, [Cornwall]
Cornwall.
People mentioned
[Isabella of France], Queen of England.
Note
Dated on the guard to? c. 1327, with reference to ordinances issued on 1 May 1327. However, these refer back to ordinances of Edward II, suggesting that the petition itself was submitted at an earlier date. Queen Isabella was granted the county of Cornwall in 1317, and thus presumably the petition was submitted between 1317 and 1327 (and probably before she left for France in 1325).
