Note
Dated on the guard to '? 1316 seq.', with reference to the mention in the petition of the king's ninth year. A Gilbert de Bromley served as victualler of Carlisle during Edward II's reign, and appears to have been dead by c. 1320 (SC 8/4/179). Gilbert had a brother named Richard, who acted as his executor (SC 8/36/1784), and this may be the person concerned here, but there is no indication that he ever served as victualler himself. If he did, it may have been alongside his brother, or possibly later under Edward III, but it seems most likely that the scribe has confused the two men, which would thus probably date the petition to the latter part of Edward II's reign.
