Reference
SC 8/121/6044
Date
[? 1380]
Description
Petitioners
Robert Lang and others of Ireland, students of law.
Name(s)
Lang, Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Ireland.
Nature of request
Lang and his associates, men of Ireland staying at the court to learn the law, request the repeal in their case of an act of the last Parliament ordering those people with lands or rents in Ireland to remain on those lands, on pain of having two-thirds of the profits of those lands taken for use in funding the war.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
Dated by Connolly, and on the guard, to 1382 on the basis of appointments of attorney made by Lang on 10 September 1382 and 8 October 1383 (CPR 1381-5, pp.161, 313). However, the petition clearly relates to the Statute of Absentees passed during the Hilary Parliament of 1380, and thus, since it refers to the 'last parliament', presumably this petition was presented to the following parliament, held at Northampton later that year.
