Nature of request
[Associated petition with SC 8/121/6003]The citizens of London request the restoration of goods seized in Ghent by the bailiffs of the King of France. They have been taken at the suit of two burgesses of Ghent in connection with a debt owed to them, although the merchants claim that it had been paid, and the matter resolved as part of an agreement between the king and Countess Margaret made at Montreuil to resolve damages inflicted by Flemings on English merchants.

Note
This petition and that at SC 8/121/6003 form part of a long-running dispute between the English crown and the rulers of Flanders, involving debts and the seizure of the goods of merchants from both sides. A letter sent by Edward I to the officials of Ghent on 23 August 1302 appears to have been in response to these petitions (SC 1/13/49, calendared in CCR 1296-1302, pp.555-6).
