Description

Acknowledges receipt of letters; states 'the late turbulent spirit among the Negroes was, I believe, confined to Dominica. In this Island, their conduct has been peaceable and orderly'; states the result of the debate in the House of Commons, on the reports of the Committee relating to the Slave Trade, has 'not caused any alteration in their behavior, nor have I reason to suspect it will'; refers to the fear of the Council and Assembly of Montserrat that the 'Slaves' might be influenced by the 'insurrection' at Dominica, during its height; gave Montserrat 'one hundred stand' though 'there has been no occasion to use them'; troops and works at Dominica.
