Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick: he congratulates him on the retreat of the enemy. Admiral Pocock has arrived from the East Indies with a convoy of seventeen ships; Holdernesse refers Ferdinand to Granby for news from those parts. Since his defeat Lally has retired to Pondicherry. Nothing has been heard of the French squadron since the previous October. Good condition of the British fleet under Rear Admiral Stephens. Dated at Whitehall. ff. 125-127
