Reports that last August he received a letter from Governor Hamilton of Bermuda, enclosing a list of provisions and military stores absolutely necessary for the defence of the islands under his government, and as there was no immediate opportunity to write to England about subject, he asked Mathew to supply them; due to situation immediately sent the articles he could obtain, amounting to expense of £1873 7s 4d; encloses relevant information; has recently received a second request but because do not have apprehension of war starting he did not think he was authorized to put government at any further expense, but confined himself to supplying some pork and rum and small supply of medicines; various related enclosures.
