Description

Draft; reports in consequence of the capture of some British vessels on the North West coast of America by an officer commanding two Spanish ships of war, the King thought it proper to take measures for augmenting his forces; should put islands in a state of defence, although thinks it does not seem probable that any attack will be made in the course of the present year by the Spanish, on any of the limits within Mathew's command, unless they should induce the French to take an immediate part in the war; stresses the importance of gaining and transmitting to him intelligence regarding the naval and military force and preparation of the Spanish and French in the West Indies.
