Description

Harrington to Cumberland, informing him of the 'unfortunate success of His Majesty's arms against the rebels [Prestonpans]. The ten battalions from Flanders are marching against the rebels under Wade. Cumberland is to hold six more battalions and three regiments of dragoons in readiness to march at a moment's warning. He should not wait for notice if the enemy go into winter quarters or embark troops for Britain, or if the English and Hanoverian prisoners arrive. Dated (NS) at Whitehall. PS. that he encloses a letter from Brigadier Fowke and a list of killed and wounded. [SP 87/18/86]. ff. 175-177
