Newcastle to Cumberland: he encloses a letter to Crauford and Mordaunt with instructions for bringing troops from Ostend to Flushing. This he did because of the landing of the young pretender; Sir John Cope is marching with a small force to oppose him. Another consideration was that two battalions were sent from England to Ostend. He will lay the matter before the lords justices, who he thinks will order the return of these troops. Dated (OS) at Whitehall. ff. 81, 82
