Harrington to Ligonier: the king intending to have 40,000 troops in the Netherlands for the coming campaign, and 32,000 being already there, negotiations are under way with the Austrians for the remaining 8,000. He encloses a copy of Kaunitz's proposals and demands [SP 87/16/40]. Ligonier is to negotiate the matter directly with Kaunitz. As the king does not intend to put the Austrians to any expense, he also does not expect them to make any profit. The troops are to be entirely distinct from Arenberg's corps. He encloses the draft of a convention [SP 87/16/41] which Ligonier is to use as a model. Dated (OS) at Whitehall. ff. 78-82
