Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick, partially in cipher: on reception of Ferdinand's letters the king ordered his ministers to examine the state of the army in Britain to see if it was possible to make up the strength of that in Germany. It was reported that this would make the army at home so weak as to be useless. The king therefore regrets that he cannot make up the army in Germany. Dated at Whitehall.
