Description

Encloses a few answers to the additional Heads of Enquiry which he reports are all as yet he has been able to obtain; return of vessels entered inwards and cleared outwards at the Custom House of St. George between the restitution in January 1784 and 1 May 1788 'with Negroes from the Coast of Africa' [Transatlantic Slave Trade]; subject of Enquiry is Slave Trade and Plantation Slavery; despatch includes 11 questions and answers; asks questions such as '1. What is the Disposition of the Free Negroes with Respect to Labour?', 4. Does the English Planter cultivate his Land at more Expense than the French? State the particulars & the Reasons why.'; and '10. Are the Ships which bring Negroes to the British Islands, employed in carrying back the produce of those Islands to Europe?'.
