Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on 1 individual petition (W. Wilberforce Bird) on behalf of William Marson, convicted at the Old Bailey, for stealing 14 gold rings, value £10, property of William Ward, silversmith, on 23 February 1798. Evidences supplied by John Sharp, shopman to Ward and others. Grounds for clemency: 'extreme youth' (age not given), and (Rose notes) 'The Prisoner having made bad connections in Town, will, I am persuaded, never remain with his Friends in the Country'. Initial sentence: death, commuted to transportation for life. Recommendation: 7 years transportation. Folios 285-288.
