Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London on 1 petition [wanting,] on behalf of John Pittman, convicted at the Old Bailey, for receiving 5 gallons of lamp oil, knowing it to have been stolen (by William Horribin, cellar-man at the Lamp Office; received 7 years transportation), value 13/6, property of Joseph Lucas, Christopher Spencer and Thomas Tuckey, contractor for lighting lamps, on 5 March 1798. Evidences supplied by John Newlin, carpenter and engine maker; Thomas Tuckey, William Horribin, the prisoner and 6 others. Initial sentence: 14 years transportation. Recommendation: no mercy. Folios 153-156.
