Covering letter to a report [see below] from John Matthew Grimwood, Recorder of Colchester on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (5 people, churchwardens and magistrates from Bradfield and Bentley in Essex) on behalf of John Mixter, blacksmith, convicted at the Colchester Quarter Sessions in Essex, on 8 January 1798, for breaking and entering a barn and taking a lock, value 4d, property of Byham Hewes, farmer. There is a covering letter to the collective petition from R. Thornton. Grounds for clemency: previous good character, is truly sorry for the crime, men of credit have signed his petition and has an infirm wife. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation.
