Report of Henry Jodrell, Recorder of Yarmouth on 1 individual petition (prisoner) on behalf of Richard Stroud, Excise Officer, convicted at Yarmouth on 14 September 1796, for stealing 6lb of candles, value 4/-, property of John Clarke, tallow chandler, on 26 February 1796. Evidences supplied by James Scarlet, servant to Clarke and John Clarke. Stroud often called at the Chandler's in the course of his duty and stole whilst under this guise. Prisoner offered £10 to Seaslet to keep quiet. Grounds for clemency: already served 2 years, previous good character, is capable of being useful to society and is willing to enlist in HM. Navy.
