Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on Thomas Cutland convicted at the Old Bailey in February 1797, for stealing a cask of ale, property of Messrs Starkey and Jennings, brewers. Grounds for clemency: representation made by the Sheriffs of London, his employers have spoken for him, served more than 1 year in prison, good conduct whilst in prison. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: to find security for the term equal to remainder of sentence. Folios 63-64. See also HO 47/21/17, folios 91-108.
