Description

1 collective petition (11 people, prosecutor and jury members) on behalf of Benjamin Packford, convicted at the Old Bailey on 6 December 1797, for stealing a leather pocket book, value 5/-, property of David Young, on 17 October 1797. Grounds for clemency: youth (22), first offence, previous good character, prisoner is the sole support for his aged mother. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Folios 29-30.
