Description

Report of James Adair on a letter from Reverend Peploe Ward and Mr Curry, magistrates, on behalf of Enoch Read, convicted at the Chester Quarter Sessions on 14 July 1795, for petty larceny. There is a covering letter to the report of Ward and Curry (a copy given to Leycester by the prisoners father) from George Leycester. Grounds for clemency: good behaviour whilst in prison. Initial sentence: 2 years hard labour in Chester Castle and to be publicly whipped at Nether Knutsford. Recommendation: remission of remaining sentence. Folios 164-169.
