Petition from John Foy Edgar and Azariah Pinney, Sheriffs of the City of Bristol on behalf of Henry Thatcher, servant, convicted for receiving goods stolen at a fair and sentenced to 7 years transportation (2 of which have almost elapsed). Grounds for clemency: previous good character, able bodied and willing to serve on land or at sea. The sheriffs consider it a duty in times of national danger to state that there are other able bodied men deserving of an alleviation of sentence in the same gaol. Note on reverse of petition: 'This case was referred to the Recorder of Bristol 8 July 1795 the Report unfavourable as to Thatcher and William Homer [William Horner] in the same Gaol'.
