Letter of Nash Grose concerning William Sampson, convicted at the 'last' Cornwall Assizes with ------- Hoshen at the 'last' Cornwall Assizes, for seizing (along with many others) a quantity of corn. Sampson and Hoshen had been the ringleaders, and Hoshen had been left for execution as an example. Since the execution peace has been restored Grose, following a letter to this effect from Lord De Dunstanville, the committing magistrate, recommends that Sampson is not now transported but imprisoned for two years. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Annotated, 'Pardoned 31 August 1786.' Folios 233-234.
