Covering letter from Nash Grose enclosing a letter from William Davies, the Worcester Gaoler at (dated 8 May 1796) concerning 2 men tried at the Lent assizes at Worcester in 1794:
1. James Masters, for stealing lead fixed to a building.
2. William Freeman, for stealing goods.
Grounds for clemency: excellent character references stating that they have worked well in the leather manufactory within the gaol, would lead honest and industrious lives if pardoned and it is important to demonstrate to other prisoners that good behaviour would lead to practical benefits in the future (to encourage others to work hard in the prisoner factory). Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: free pardon. Folios 229-232.
