Report of Soulden Lawrence on Louis Peppin alias Louis Pepin, employed at Windsor Castle by the Board of Works, convicted at the 'last' Berkshire Assizes, for stealing a quantity of napkins and other linen in August 1795, property of the king. Peppin had been given the keys to the linen so as to be able to transport it to Frogmore House as required. A covering letter from Mornington dated 5 May 1796. Peppin had admitted taking the linen and selling it for beer. Evidences supplied by Francis Burt, William Whitmore, Mr Baverstock, Thomas Moor, William Till, John Elmer, leather seller, Susannah Walker servant to Martha Chapman; David Evans, Yeoman of the Ewery; Samuel Maynard, Ann Goodland, John Secker, James Bullock, Sarah Best, Mary Finch and Elizabeth Whitmore. The report is an mainly a copy of that found in HO 47/20/32, folios 177-183). Initial sentence: not given. Recommendation: no mercy. Folios 216-222.
