Report of William Henry Ashhurst on John Davis Newton convicted at he 'last' Buckinghamshire Assizes, at Aylesbury, stealing a horse, property of Humphrey Puddefoot. There is a letter from Humphrey Puddefoot and also the Duke of Portland. The latter who states that he has issued a respite for 7 days so that the petition and report can be received. Grounds for clemency: none given. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: no mercy, as prisoner has similar convictions in other counties. Folios 72-76. See also HO 47/20/16, folios 79-80.
