Several short reports by G Rooke, on those he has omitted to include in his circuit letter already sent:
1. Susannah Moreton, convicted at Derbyshire of murder of her bastard child, later respited, and believed by the judge to be innocent due to the confession of a man who was convicted with her. Recommendation: free pardon.
2. Edward Newton and Thomas Holmes, convicted at Nottingham for stealing corn and sentenced to transportation. The foreman of the grand jury and the gentry of the neighbourhood, speak highly of them. Recommendation: 12 months imprisonment. Convicted with 2 others (Clay and Wild who will be left to suffer their sentences). See also HO 47/20/34, folios 90-91.
3. John Miles, convicted at Lincolnshire for burglary (breaking into a pantry because he was starving). Recommendation: to serve in HM. Navy.
4. Thomas Smith, convicted at Lincolnshire for grand larceny. Recommendation: to serve in HM Navy.
5. John Whieldon [John Wheeldon], convicted at Derbyshire for grand larceny in robbing his master. A stout lad well able to serve his Majesty by land or sea, There would be no objection to a remission of his sentence if an application were made.
6. Maria Clapperton, sentenced to transportation. Her conviction is illegal. Recommendation: free pardon.
7. John Sisson[?], convicted for grand larceny in Nottingham, and sentenced to transportation. A bad fellow, remission of sentence would be improper, although he should receive medical treatment for a cancerous or venereal lump on his face, said to be very painful. Asks that he is put on board a vessel with medical facilities.
Rooke states that he has added 10 more prisoners to the 28 already at Warwick, such a large number being inconvenient, the sooner the numbers can be reduced the better.
