Description

1 individual letter/petition (William, HRH the Duke of Clarence) on behalf of Thomas Matthew[?] sentenced to transportation and currently in Newgate prison. The prisoner has been moved from the felon's side due to excellent behaviour, and Lord Kenyon has already signed a petition on the prisoner's behalf. Note on back of petition: 'to be referred immediately to Mr Baldwin + the necessary steps to be taken without delay for ascertain whether the Convict is a proper subject of the King's mercy. N.B. I had not heard of a Petition in the Convict's favour signed by ----- Kenyon or by anyone else until HRH's letter was put into my hands.' Folios 50-51.
