Report of John William Rose, Recorder of London, on Mary Clarke, convicted at the London Sessions [Old bailey] in October, for stealing 2 pieces of calico privately in a London shop, and now held in Newgate. Acquitted of a similar charge at the same sessions. Grounds for clemency: good previous character. Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: transportation for 7 years.
Mention is made also of 3 prisoners, Biggott, Purchase and Warmbeck, whom it was recommended in his report of September 1794 should serve as soldiers in the East Indies, but were released in error by Mr Kirby, the Keeper of Newgate prison. Folios 1-3.
