Description

Certificate/memorial of Archibald Macdonald and Richard Perryn on prisoners capitally convicted on the Home Circuit in 1795 and recommended to mercy on the conditions set against their names:

Essex Assizes at Chelmsford 15 July 1795

1. James Grice, convicted for stealing 4 bullocks, value £62, property of William Finch, Recommendation: transportation for life.

2. George Catto, convicted for stealing 3 heifers, value £6, property of John Carter. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

Sussex Assizes at Lewes 24 July 1795,

3. William Avery, convicted for highway robbery, taking goods value £85, from Alexander Trotter, and taking goods of £85 from Thomas Barton and Edmund Catt. Recommendation: transportation for life. See also HO 47/18/24, folios 113-116.

4. William Woodman, convicted for stealing goods, value £20 and notes, value £230, property of James Beale. Recommendation: transportation for life.

Hertfordshire Assizes at Hereford on 13 July 1795

5. James Buckley, convicted for breaking and entering the dwelling house of William Chandler in the daytime and stealing £4:2:6. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

Kent Assizes at Maidstone 20 July 1795

6. Edward Crofts, convicted for highway robbery, taking goods value 21d, property of John Turner. Recommendation: mercy, on condition of enlistment in HM. Navy.

Surrey Assizes at Croydon 27 July 1795

Catherine Tissard, convicted for stealing £6:16:0 of John Davis, in the dwelling house of James Jackson. Recommendation: 12 months imprisonment at hard labour. Folios 294-295.
