Description

Certificate/memorial of William Henry Ashhurst and Beaumont Hotham on prisoners convicted on the Home Circuit at the Lent Assizes in 1795 and recommended to mercy on the conditions set against their names:

Essex at Chelmsford 11 March 1795

1. John Thorogood, convicted for highway robbery, £1:1:6, property of John Bishop. Recommendation: transportation for life.

2. Samuel Curtis, convicted for the rape of Elizabeth Tiffin, spinster. Recommendation: to transportation for life.

3. Daniel Cooper, convicted for stealing 2 ewe sheep, value 50/-, property of Robert Brooks and John Thomas. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

4. John Cammage, convicted for highway robbery, £3:8:01/2 property of John Massie. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

5. William Page, convicted for stealing a mare, value £10, property of Daniel Cross. Recommendation: to 7 years transportation.

6. Robert Raynor, convicted for breaking and entering the dwelling house of Samuel Turp in the daytime and stealing goods and money to the value of £1:8:5, property of Ann Turp, widow. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

7. James Dell, convicted for stealing 5 wether sheep, value £3, property of Jeremiah Pope. Recommendation: 14 years transportation.

8. Henry Spong, convicted for stealing a brown gelding, value £16, property of John Hughes. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

Kent at Maidstone 18 March 1795

9. George Curtis alias George Beckwith Smith, convicted for stealing a gelding, value £20, property of William Whitely. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

10. William Wilson, convicted for highway robbery, taking goods and money, value £1: 10: 3, property of John Cope. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

11. George Savage, convicted for stealing goods and money, value £12: 16: 6, property of Sarah Macneal. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

Surrey at Kingston upon Thames 23 March 1795

12. William Power, convicted for being at large before his sentence has expired. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

13. John Chalk, convicted for stealing a mare, value £10, and another mare, value £9, property of George Watts. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

14. John Goodwin, convicted for stealing a gelding, value £15, property of Arthur Emmett. Recommendation: 7 years transportation.

15. William Pilkington alias William Hines convicted for breaking and entering the dwelling house of John Gray with intent to steal his goods. Recommendation: to serve in HM. Navy.
