Report of James Mingay on Lawrence Smith, 'one of a Gang of Vagrants (called Gypsies)', convicted at the Suffolk Assizes at Bury St. Edmunds, on 27 March 1795, for stealing a boiling copper, value £3, property of Thomas Perry, a labourer at Stansfield, Suffolk. Evidences supplied by Thomas Perry, John Beale, farmer at Framfield, and Dr Dey Syer[?], magistrate. Grounds for clemency: none given. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: speaks against mercy; annotated: 'unfavourable'. Folios 168-172.
