Report of Beaumont Hotham on 1 collective petition (26 people from Leicester, Asfordby, Endenly, Tooley, Melton and Stoughton, Leicestershire) on behalf of Elizabeth Cart, convicted at the Leicester Summer Assizes in 1793, for stealing a silver watch, property of Captain Charles Green, during the summer of 1793. Cart was described as 'a common woman of the town'. Grounds for clemency: had shown contrition, already spent over 1 year in prison and had behaved well during that time. Initial Sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: free pardon. Folios 10-12.
