Certificate/memorial of John Heath on William Matthews and James Boswell alias James Clarke, attainted at the Dorset Lent Assizes at Dorchester in 1790, for burglary and horse stealing (respectively). Grounds for clemency: representations were made on their behalf by William Morton Smith, magistrate, that they have behaved well in prison and worked hard in 'carrying on a Manufactory established in the said [Dorchester] Gaol'. Initial sentence: death[?], commuted to 7 years transportation. Recommendation: 5 years hard labour. Folios 268-269.
