Report of Richard Perryn on 1 collective petition (32 people, from Birmingham in Warwickshire, trade and occupations given) on behalf of Joseph Biggs, button manufacturer, convicted at the Worcestershire Assizes, for stealing a leather pocket book containing £10 and other bank bills, property of Francis Lucy, at Pershore Fair on 26 June 1792. Found not guilty of stealing privately. Evidences supplied by John Williams, William Walker, John Hathaway and John Williams. Grounds for clemency: previous good character, was innocent of the crime, was struck dumb at the trial (never before being in trouble), he had been searched for the missing goods but they were not found on him, 1 of the witnesses (a 13 or 14 year old boy) gave false/mistaken evidence, and there are respectable people will to provide security for his future good behaviour. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: no mercy. Folios 252-255.
