Report of Alexander Thomson on 1 collective petition (55 people, including the prosecutor, from Leicester) on behalf of John Bentley, of Thurmaston, convicted at the Leicestershire Spring Assizes in 1792, for a robbery on John Lockwood. Grounds for clemency: first offence, previous good character has suffered a 'long confinement', has behaved well during this time, is contrite and has a wife and 4 children. Initial sentence: death.
