Report of Alexander Thomson on 1 collective petition (43 people, mainly from Birmingham in Warwickshire including the Sheriff and High Bailiff) on behalf of Elizabeth Harding, convicted at the 'last' Warwickshire Assizes, for stealing a gown, property of William Buckley, at Birmingham. Evidences supplied by Elizabeth Buckley, prosecutor's wife; William Buckley, Susannah Dealey, servant to pawnbroker; Joseph Sly and George Lewis. The last named here had come to 'see the Assizes' and was surprised to see the prisoner (he gave her a character reference). Grounds for clemency: previous good character, from a family of good character, first offence, has behaved well in prisoner both before and after conviction, was penitent and contrite, and her petition contains 'several respectable Names'. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: none made. Folios 197-199.
