Report of John Wilson on 1 collective petition (20 people, including the prosecutor, the keeper of Worcester Gaol, Worcester magistrates and gentlemen, and the high sheriff) on behalf of George Paine/Payne, convicted at the Worcestershire Lent Assizes on 10 March 1792, for involvements in 'the late Riots', at the house of William Russell, at Birmingham. Grounds for clemency: age (56 years), first offence, has a wife and five small children, previous good character, good behaviour while in prison, the crime was committed under 'Liquor and the Phrenzy of the times', is contrite. Initial sentence: death, commuted to 2 months imprisonment. Recommendation: as his time is now served and he is free no further report/recommendation is necessary. Folios 174-176.
