Report of Richard Perryn on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (17 people, including the keeper of Worcester Gaol, Worcester magistrates, several late sheriffs and the current sheriff) on behalf of Richard Salter, convicted (with John Flemming) at the Worcestershire Summer Assizes in 1789, for breaking and entering a dwelling house and stealing a printed cotton gown, value 10/-, a table cloth, 2/- and an apron, value 1/-, property of Mary Walton, at Lengdon. There is a covering letter in the prisoners favour from William Zygon[?]. Grounds for clemency: already served 3 years in prison in fear of an execution order, any example would be lost in an execution so long after conviction, first offence, behaved well in prison, has an elderly mother with no support, crime committed through poverty and hunger, and is contrite. Initial sentence: death, respited. Recommendation: mercy. Folios 163-167.
