Report of Francis Buller on Robert Adam, convicted at the City of York Assizes, for stealing goods from a dwelling house, value £4. Grounds for clemency: as long as he 'is out of this Country it does not appear to me [the judge] to be material to what part of the World he is sent'. Initial sentence: not given, commuted to 7 years transportation. Recommendation: to transport himself for life and find 2 sureties for he same (for life). The judge refers to the importance of the wording of the condition as the prisoner will need to present his sureties in King's Bench. Folios 159-160.
