Report of Alexander Thomson on 1 individual petition (prisoner) and 1 collective petition (12 people) on behalf of Robert Wherrick, convicted at the Yorkshire Assizes, for stealing 3 sacks and 4 bushels of oats (2 sacks, valued 18d in the petition), property of Richard Kirby, of Kirby, on 24 June 1791. There was a second indictment for stealing a sack and a bushel of oats property of Samuel Melbourn. The judge considered him a dangerous criminal and had tried him before for murder (acquitted) Grounds for clemency: repentant, first offence, previous good character, promise of future behaviour, received offers of employment and has a dependent wife and 8 children. Initial sentence: 7 years transportation. Recommendation: no mercy. Folios 24-26.
