Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick to Holdernesse: he is impatient for news of Hawke's victory [Quiberon Bay]. The year will be remembered for its successes. He is assembling 12,000 men under the hereditary prince to mount a diversion in favour of the Prussians. He encloses an account [SP 87/36/47] by the prince of Beveren of the hereditary prince's victory over the Württembergers. De Broglie has abandoned his camp at Giessen. Ferdinand is blockading the town with troops under the duke of Holstein. While not wishing to put the troops into winter quarters until he knows the fate of Giessen, he regards the campaign as being practically over. Dated at Krofdorf. ff. 157, 158
