Queen Eleanor (of Provence) and Richard, earl of Cornwall, to Henry III: the earl Marshal and John Balliol have arrived in England; in the event of the invasion of Gascony by the Castilians, the prelates will grant an aid, the lower clergy only on certain conditions; all the earls and barons of the kingdom will come to you in Gascony but the other laity require a confirmation of your great charters of liberties; the said clerics and laity will meet at Westminster after Easter; let us know your wishes.
