Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick (all in cipher): the king considers Ferdinand's letter of 7 November so important that he has communicated it to his most trusted ministers. They have recommended that Ferdinand's army should be reinforced by all possible means except that of English troops. He invites Ferdinand to submit ideas and points out that he has already been reinforced by 6,000 men. The Dutch will not release their Scottish brigade. The king's allies will not remain loyal if they cannot defend their territories. Dated at Whitehall. PS. requesting information on the expense of a free battalion. ff. 79-82
