Description (What the record is about)
-
Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick (partially in cipher): adverse winds have delayed the response of Duke Louis, who is in agreement with the king. He encloses a copy of the declaration the duke will present to the ministers of the belligerents at The Hague. Strong winds have forced Hawke off his station off Brest. The French have taken advantage of this to sail from Brest, it is presumed for Vannes, where an embarkation has been long preparing. Hawke has followed and important news is expected soon. Dated at Whitehall. ff. 76-78
