Description

Holdernesse to Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick: he has received information that de Broglie will go into winter quarters at Frankfurt, Hanau, Worms and Speyer. The army will be disposed so that it may be assembled within two or three days. The French have made offers to the elector of Mainz to base their troops in his capital. If he refuses they may take it by force. Belle-Île is very ill, and great changes are expected in the army. Dated at Whitehall. 'All in cypher.' ff. 38, 39
